How to restrict access to particular operations on your Brother printer?

Brother printers are a well-renowned name in the field of printing. Every printer manufactured by this company comes up with exciting features and out-of-the-box functionalities. Secure Function Lock is yet another feature of the printer that helps a user to control the operations it performs. With this feature, one can limit the number of operations other users can access or perform on the printer. To enable this, follow these instructions:

  1. Set the password for the admin
  • Go to Menu on the Brother printer
  • By Pressing the Up or Down key, choose General Setup and hit Ok
  • Now, choose Function Lock from the menu using Up or Down key and press Ok
  • Provide a 4-digit number to set as your password
    • Keep a note of this password as you need to call the Brother printer support team if you forget it
  • Press Ok
  • If you see Verify, provide the password again
  • Press Ok and then Stop/Exit
  1. Set up the public users

Public users don’t need a password to operate on your Brother machine. They can access the features that you permit them to use.

  • Open the Menu on your Brother machine
  • Select General Setup from the menu using the Up or Down key, hit Ok
  • Select Function Lock from the menu and hit Ok
  • Now, choose Setup user and press Ok
  • Provide your admin password, which you have set up earlier
  • Press Ok
  • From the menu, choose Public and press Ok
  • Choose one of the followings:
    • Press left or right arrow key to select Enable or Disable different functions such as Scan, Fax Rx, Copy, Print, etc. This will set up the operations a public user can access. Once done, hit Ok
    • To modify public user settings, use the Up or Down arrow key and choose the setting you want to modify. Now, use the left or right arrow key to select Enable or Disable. Hit Ok, when done.
  • Hit Stop or Exit

  1. Set up restricted users
  • Open Menu and then choose (one by one) and then hit Ok to the following options available in the menu
    • General Setup
    • Function Lock
    • Setup User
  • Provide your admin password and again hit Ok
  • Using the dial pad, type the username and press Ok
  • Provide the admin password, once again
  • Press Ok
  • Using the right or left arrow key, choose Enable or Disable for the various printer’s functions.
  • Now choose Exit from the menu and then press Ok
  • Repeat the steps, if you want to add more than one user
  • Hit Stop or Exit

    • Lock Off -> On
